Washington, District of Columbia

The Washington Monument is closed until an unspecified date in spring, 2019.

While visitors to the National Mall can still see and photograph the monument, it is closed to entry, meaning that one can’t walk the stairs or ride the elevators to the top.  The National Park Service (NPS) is modernizing the elevators.

One should anticipate some amount of disruption to the appearance of the monument for photography, involving equipment, railings, etc.

Visit the NPS website for current updates at: www.nps.gov/wamo/index.htm.

If you have an update, please contact Scaffolding Watch with information, or about any other site, location and nature of the obstruction or closure.
